Step by Step Instructions
for setting up your Discount Net Hosting account.

#1 Pick a Domain Name or a .com name that isnt being used already. Click here to see if your choice is available

#2 Sign up for the service. On our Home page pick either the gold or platinum packages. Click on a package to get started!

#3 Fill In the blanks with your name, email address, choose a user id , choose a password , and let us know what domain name or .com name you would like to use. Then click submit at bottom of the page.

#4 After clicking submit youll be taken to the Hosting choice page. Choose either the gold or platinum packages and click on subscribe logo.

#5 This will take you to the Discount Net Hosting payment page. If you already are a paypal user just enter your email address and password. If you are not a user of paypal click on the New User link. It will request your name,address, email address as well as visa or mastercard info.

#6 Payment will be done immediately and you are all signed up at this point

#7 You will recieve an email from us within a few hours at the latest. We check for new orders over 10 times a day. When we see your order we will set up your account right away and email you confirmation that this has been completed.

#8 Your confirmation will include your new ftp address , user id, and password. We will also send your raw web address so you can get started today instead of waiting on domain registration (which takes 48-72 hours to take affect).

#9 We will register your chosen Domain name for you free of charge( your new .com name will be attached to your temporary web address within 48-72 hours.

#10 Now you can start uploading your website to our servers. To make this easy we suggest using cute ftp. It is the easiest and it is free. If you dont have cute ftp you can go here to download it..

#11 You will use your ftp address provided to you , your user id , and your password with cute ftp to upload your pages and pictures to our server. Your raw web address can be used to view your website after it is uploaded. And also can be used to link several of your webpages together prior to your domain name registration 48-72 hour waiting period.

#12 If you havent designed a website yet. Check and see if you have and web design software on your computer. If you dont download this html editor for free. it makes designing a webpage fast and simple.

#13 Your front page of your website must be named index.html . When someone types in your domain web address the index.html file is by default the one that is shown. All of your webpages names must end in the .html or .htm format. Your web designer software will do this for you . Cute Ftp will offer you a free html web page editor but we have found it very difficult to use. so we suggest using the one above if needed.

#14 You must upload your index page to the mainwebsite_html directory .. youll see this directory when you connect with your ftp client

#15 Email functions and Frontpage 2000 will work after the domain name is settled but not before hand

#16 to use an external mail device with our hosting account use this format for smtp and pop addresses (Pop and smtp are the same:) mail.<domain>.com
User: <user>@<domain>.com , must be whole email address

#17 here is another explanation of cute ftp and how to upload your site to our servers.. most ftp programs have similarities so if you choose to use another besides cute ftp then directions may be slightly different.. but overall the same..

take that web page you made your front page of your site .. and name it index.html

all webpages have the ending .html or .htm but you will need to name the first page index.html

so now that you have named it index.html youll need to start your ftp software. if you already have it great.. if you dont then goto cuteftp.com and download cuteftp its free for a 30 day trial.. after that you can get another 30 day trial if you want.. anyways download cuteftp.exe and then install it on your computer.. when you open cute ftp youll see three white windows.. one on the left one on the right and one on the bottom.. the left window shows your computers files (your desktop and all your c drive files) the right window shows you the files on our web servers or on your website. and the bottom window shows you your transferring progress.

goto the top left and click the file button. then click on site manager

click on add new youll see three empty blanks one is for the ftp address, one for your user name and one for your password.. if you have an account with us you have received this info ..put the ftp info in these blanks and then click on connect.. youll see it connecting..

hopefully you wont get any error messages.. if you do everything i wrote here it will work out fine.. after it connects youll see in the right screen mainwebsite_html .. double click on it.. and this is where you want to upload your webpages and pictures.. including your index.html page that was made earlier when you made your front webpage .. you can name your pages anything you want with the .html at the end but the first page was named index.html.

after you clicked on the mainwebsite_html directory goto the left window in cuteftp and look for your index.html file that you had saved on your computer.. click on it and drag it over to the right window.. if it asks you anything just click yes.. it may ask if you want to overwrite a file.. say yes..youll see your progress in the bottom window..

thats it thats how you upload your webpage and website and pics.. when you want to make your site fancier just make a nicer webpage and name it index.html and upload it over the old one.. then when someone types in your domain name they will see whatever index.html page you have uploaded..
